What Stronghold is

A kingdom, and one move a day to run it with.

You rule one province. It is not the important one. The crown of your own realm sits on somebody else's head, and he has his own ambitions, his own opinion of you, and no particular interest in your advancement.

The game is what you do about that.

Nobody hands you the answer

There is no calculator. No bar to compare against another bar, no percentage over an enemy's head, no green tick telling you the odds look good.

Everything reaches you as writing, the way it would reach anyone in the job. Your kingdom talks to you constantly, and it is your business to work out how much of it to believe.

Nothing ever tells you afterwards whether you judged it right. You find that out the way everyone does.

Are you any good at this

That is the actual question. Not whether you can out-click anyone, because there is nothing to click quickly, and not whether you know the optimal build, because nobody is telling you what it is.

Whether you can hold your nerve when something goes badly. Whether you can tell a warning from a complaint. Whether the people who work for you will still be worth having in a month, given how you have treated them.

Everyone starts small. Very few finish.

Where it runs

In a browser, on a phone or a desktop. Your kingdom is wherever you sign in. It is free, nothing in it can be bought, and no payment improves your position in any way.
